Why not dress as one of the Transylvanians for Halloween? You remember them don’t you? These people were the party animals that you see in various parts of the Rocky Horror Picture Show film, dressed up mainly in fancy, formal attire. Remember the Time Warp dance scene?

And just what do I mean by formal attire? Well the Transylvanians typically wore black pants and black coats with long tails, a white vest, white spats, dark shoes and sometimes even a colorful shirt.

If you’re stumped for a place to start, a Riff Raff costume would be a good place to start – then dress it up a bit! Some members of the Transylvanian’s can also be seen wearing crazy sunglasses, top hats that look like they came from a New Year’s Eve party and sometimes even bow ties.

And it doesn’t matter if the shirt is white or color, or if it’s ruffled or plane. It doesn’t matter if it has buttons or not, just so long as it has a somewhat formal look to it. Just let your individuality show. After all, Rocky Horror is meant to illuminate the individuality of people – so show a bit of yourself in your Transylvanian’s costume.

And remember, since the people appeared as a group in the Rocky Horror Picture Show, then if you plan on wearing a Transylvanian costume for Halloween, then you need to have several people dressed the same as you to have the perfect group costume. You don’t want to match the other group members perfectly, but you do want to look very similar to make the costume recognizable as one of the members of the Transylvanian’s in the Rocky Horror film.

So have fun this Halloween dressed in your Transylvanian costume. Just make sure that you will practice the Time Warner until you are perfect, then you can entertain your friends at the Halloween party – and who knows, you may have other Halloweeners join in on all the fun too. Happy Halloween.

The character of Eddie in the film, like many others in the show, was short-lived but eventually he became Dr. Frank N. Furter‘s supper. Yuck! In the film Eddie was the ex-delivery boy but he was also a talented saxophone player who also loved to ride motorcycles. Heck, he even had a chance to do a musical number in the film.

But if you would like to dress up in the Eddie costume for Halloween it should be easy to do and I’ll give you a few tips right now. First of all, if you can think of Eddie as a biker that will help you make your costume choice decisions much easier. If you can get hold of some blue jeans, a pair of biker boots, a dark T-shirt, and even an old biker vest, you’ll be well on your way to having a the perfect Eddie costume.

And if you want to really bump it up a notch, if you have an old tenor saxophone and a head bandage to wear underneath your long hair, while sporting a few tattoos on your arms of maybe a skull or some other biker motif then you’ll pretty much be done and dressed in a perfect Eddie costume.

And even though he is not one of the most popular members of the film he is well-known for the short time that he was on screen for his musical number and for his musical abilities. Not the sharpest kid on the block, Eddie is an important part of the Rocky Horror Picture Show film.

Janet?! You want a Janet costume? So that is who you want to be – all right then. Let’s get started dressing up like her in your own Janet Weiss costume.

First of all, and this can be the hardest question to answer, but let’s take a few minutes to explore the costume options for the Janet character in the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Why?  Because there are quite a few options to choose from.

As the character of Janet, Susan Sarandon was simply adorable. And as we are introduced to her in the film we do see quite a transformation – from a very shy and mousy, wallflower type to a sexually robust and powerful being at the end.

Some of the most remarkable clothing for the Janet costume include Janet wearing a Easter bonnet type hat and a lavendar suit near the beginning of the film while at the church. Too tame for you? What about the pastel pink dress with the basic light gray sweater? Make it even more authentic by wearing it damp and holding a newspaper over your head.

Still not what you’re looking for as your perfect Janet costume? Okay, okay, how about going as Janet with her white bra and half slip? Not only is it truly memorable but it is a wonderful costume for first timers.

All you need are a shiny white demi-bra, white granny pannie type briefs, and a knee level half slip are the standard. I think just about everyone would instantly “get” this Janet costume from the Rocky Horror Picture Show film!

And to wear the perfect Janet costume you will need to get a blond wig specifically designed for this costume (unless you already have long blonde hair). If not, any dirty blonde/light brown Hannah Montana type wig will do the trick with a little tweaking – remember, you’ll want to go for that 1970′s Farrah type wavy hairdo.

Just remember if you do choose to use a curling iron on a synthetic wig, there is a good chance it will melt but using hair gel and curlers usually will keep it set through the show. So be careful in styling your new blond wig.

And once you’ve gotten all the pieces of your Janet Weiss costume together all you’ll need is the right attitude to complete the look. Remember, Janet was shy to start but by the end of the The Rocky Horror Picture Show film she was a lot more sure of her sexuality and a lot more confidant too.

Do you want to wear a Rocky costume for Halloween this year?

Rocky Horror Picture Show, or RHPS, season is upon us again. Halloween is almost here! With Halloween coming in a few weeks, it is time to get your Rocky costume ready!

This one is by far one of my most favorite costumes.  This is the ultimate man candy costume – complete with a gold lame bikini brief (hot pants, short shorts) – whatever you want to call them, but they’re really short, shorts.

So guys, it goes without saying, if you’re going in a Rocky costume this Halloween then you’re going to need a cute little bod to carry this costume off. Why? Well, because kind of like a go-go boy, or maybe even a wrestler, all you’re going to be wearing are short, shorts and shoes – gold boots if you can find them!

And if you’ve seen the film you’ll remember that Rocky is one hot little dude! And if you haven’t, then be sure to watch a copy of  the Rocky Horror Picture Show for research!

This one piece of Rocky’s costume, the short shorts, can be tricky to find. Maybe you could wear either gold swimming shorts, short gold boxers or find a pair of leather gold shorts available.

If you’re making your own Rocky costume gold shorts, you can attach gold lame fabric to black underwear too or even spray paint a pair of shorts a golden metallic color as a last choice.

As for the muscles and tan, in true RHPS tradition, a fake tan and a blond wig are absolute essentials for your perfect Rocky costume. You could use a tanner and shade the tan by making it darker in certain areas to make your abs look great! If you really want to go the fake muscle route, do it cautiously – you can buy a muscle man costume to wear under your gold lame shorts, but please keep in mind that this is RHPS and skin is preferred as a general rule.

Oh, and don’t forget Rocky’s trademark surfer dude blond hair either. You could dye your hair bleach blond if you’re not a natural blond already or you could wear a blond wig easily to complete the perfect Rocky costume.

Above all else Rocky Horror Picture Show is about fun, being outrageous, and pushing the limits. And your choice of Rocky from all other Rocky Horror Picture Show characters shows that you’ve got some attitude! So show it off and play it up!

And if you’re a first timer going to Rocky Horror Picture Show dressed up in a Rocky costume, then don’t forget you can find the heckling script online in several locations and as a virgin, you will be officially initiated before the show. It’s really a one-of-a-kind experience!

Rocky Horror is all about the experience and being able to interact with the cast. Most theaters have supply bags with toilet paper, playing cards, rice, and any other supplies that your specific cast feels is appropriate.

So, have fun, enjoy the experience, and next year you’ll be doing the time warp again – maybe even dressed up in your very own Rocky costume next year too!

So, you want to wear a Brad costume from the Rocky Horror Picture Show?

Making a Brad costume for your Rocky Horror Picture Show Halloween costume is something that shouldn’t be too difficult to accomplish! First things first, you would have to decide which  exactly which Brad that you would like to be. And if you’re going to be Brad, above all else, remain uptight.

Would you like to wear a Brad costume when Janet and he step out of the chapel, in a tuxedo? Or do you prefer “Brad” when they arrive at Dr. Frankenfurter’s mansion? Or how about a Brad costume complete with fishnets and a corset?

Whichever “Brad” you choose, do some research and pay close attention to the details! If you wanted to be “Brad” after marrying Janet then you are going to need a black tuxedo, plaid cummerbund with a matching plaid bow tie and, of course, the nerdy black rim glasses! You should style your hair in a regular men’s hair fashion with an offset part, combed over – and if you need to, you can even get a wig with this hairstyle.

Dress as though you are about to take part in a wedding, you should get into the “Brad” character. You will also need a big white rose corsage to pin to your lapel and a white handkerchief to complete this  unique Brad costume.

An alternative choice would be the “Brad” that later arrives wet and scared at Frankenfurter’s mansion with Janet. For this costume, I would stop at a second hand store first to look for a few vintage pieces.

You would style your hair the same way as “Wedding Brad” except keep it a little messy and damp. A nice pair of grey slacks, light blue button down shirt dark blue sweater vest and a tan jacket might do nicely.

The jacket would probably be the most intriguing part of this particular Brad costume. It needs to be tan, look vintage with a zipper front, preferably with side and chest pockets. I would recommend a Member’s Only type jacket. As always with any Brad costume, don’t forget those all important black rimmed glasses!

If you are feeling a bit more risqué, you could always dress as “Drag Brad” from the scene where, Rocky, Janet, Dr. Frankenfurter, Magenta and Columbia are doing a burlesque-like show. This is one version of “Brad” that you can get creative with!

Simply, all you need is a dark pair of high heels, fishnet stockings, a garter belt and a black corset that laces up in the front like the one Frankie wears in his Sweet Transvestite number. Optional items for this Brad costume could be a feather boa or some elegant long gloves.

You can lose the black glasses for this Brad costume! Just remember to paint your face with white makeup, outlined in black, and add some deep red lipstick and black mascara. Have fun with this one because you can get as daring as you are comfortable with being!

Other options if you want to dress up as Brad: you’re going to need  tidy white underwear. In the movie version, Brad wears briefs and an undershirt with sleeves. If your not that bold then boxers are a definite option. Brad also wears thick rimmed black glasses and an old fashioned hair cut that could be created with a wig.

Whichever Brad costume you choose, try to become like the essence of “Brad”. This could change drastically depending on which “Brad” you have chosen. “Wedding Brad” should feel happy, confident, and not have a care in the world. “Wet Brad” should be emotional, confused and scared after his night time walk in the rain and confusion as to what he and Janet have just walked into at Frankenfurter’s mansion. “Drag Brad” should feel confident, submissive, and sexy.

“Brad” evolves in many different ways throughout the Rocky Horror Picture Show film (heck, he’s even dressed only in tightie whities and his socks and shoes for a part of the movie) so an important part of dressing in any kind of Brad costume is relating to Brad’s character and projecting yourself in the same manner. So have fun becoming Brad this Halloween and reliving your favorite Rocky Horror Picture Show memories.

Well, for one thing Magenta is Riff Raff’s sister in the story as well as the maid for for Frankie’s mansion. She is just one of the many female characters found in the Rocky Horror universe and is well known for her french maid look.

And as an aside, the lady who portrayed Magenta in the original film also is the “owner” of the iconic lips seen lip synching at the beginning of the Rocky Horror film.

Anyway… so let’s talk about Magenta’s costume much more in depth. First of all, I don’t think that you could miss that frizzy permed red hair if you were blind. And that is definitely one of the main details that everyone remembers about Magenta – her crazy hairdo.

So make sure your hair is just right otherwise as you’re putting your costume together you’ll just be a maid – and not Magenta! And that’s not the look we’re going for here. We want to be Magenta!

Next, is Magenta’s famous french maid outfit. Her maid costume was chosen, for one thing, to give her character more purpose throughout the story.

And as french maid costumes go it’s pretty much what you’d envision in your dreams so long as you can find a black maid outfit with white collar and a white apron with a dainty little white fabric hat you’ll be good to go.

Lastly, you’ll need to lighten your face with white makeup and add some red lipstick and dark, dark eyeshadow to complete your makeup. And don’t forget to wear a pair of sexy and sassy black mini boots and, Voila!, you’re now Magenta. Your transformation from you to her only needed one main ingredient – a great Magenta costume!

Yeah, you heard that right! Not only do you get to watch Rocky Horror but you get to actively participate too! You could never have a more fun night if you were looking for something a little bit out of the ordinary.

So let’s take a moment to discuss just one of the Rocky Horror characters right now that you might want to re-enact. Have you ever thought about wearing a Columbia costume?

The character Columbia wears many different costumes throughout the Rocky Horror play or movie. And this little red haired vixen is probably best known for her gold sequined costume, big clunky Mary Jane shoes and her tap dance number during the Time Warp dance. And this is the main Columbia costume that most people choose to wear because it is so well known by all the  Rocky Horror fans.

Does she wear anything else during the movie? Yeah, and if you want something less well known Columbia also wears scrubs in the laboratory scene and later on is seen in pajamas and Mickey Mouse ears. Columbia can also be seen wearing a corset and stockings later on.

So, if you decide to dress up in a Columbia costume for Halloween, don’t forget the short red wig,  bright red lipstick, and bright streak of blush right across her face – at least now you know that you have several choices of things to wear and to decide from.

Rocky Horror provides you an opportunity to be a part of one of the best group costumes on the planet – now you just have to choose which one in the group you want to be. And if it’s a Columbia Halloween costume that you’re going to wear, more power to you showing off those fabulous legs and fancy dancing moves. Want to wear a Riff Raff Costume this halloween!

Bless his heart but Riff Raff is just one ugly dude! But he is also one of the other main male characters in the Rocky Horror Picture Show Movie and a very important one at that.

And even though he is very thin and has stringy, long blonde hair on the back and sides of his head, he is bald everywhere else – kind of like a modified mullet of some sort.

Now, not everyone has that hair-do, and if you’re “mullet deprived” then maybe you’d like to buy an actual Riff Raff wig for the perfect addition to this outfit.

Because if you don’t get the hair style just right, then you’re just going to be a butler or some other type of servant. But if you wear the right hairstyle , everyone will know who you are right away in your perfect Riff Raff costume.

Riff Raff is also really, really pale and looks pretty haggard and very unhealthy. He looks like a man who’s been sick a really, really long time.

Using makeup add realistic looking bruises and bags under your eyes for a unique effect when creating your own Riff Raff costume.

“He’s a credit to your genius, Master.”

The Riff Raff costume above includes a black tailcoat, pants, spats, white shirt front and black fingerless gloves. Also, this Rocky Horror Picture Show costume comes in the adult sizes of both Standard and X-Large.

For a perfect Riff Raff costume, you’ll also need to wear a dirty looking, old  white dress shirt – wear it with several buttons open for an even more realistic looking effect to show off that scrawny white chest. A pair of black fingerless gloves, and black shoes with spats would complete the look and then you’re all ready to go.

“Let’s do the time warp again!

One of the most well known and iconic characters in the entire Rocky Horror Picture Show experience has to be, without a doubt, the one and only, Dr. Frank N. Furter!

Although he wears several costumes  during the movie, there is one look that will never be forgotten: the sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania.

Frankie’s “Sweet T” costume to the left includes a vest, black briefs with garters attached, black arm mitts and even a pair of fishnet stockings. And this look is available for adults in Standard and X-Large sizes. Wig, pearls, shoes and ankle bracelet not included.

“In just seven days, I can make you a man.”

So what exactly do you need for an authentic Frank-n-Furter costume? Well, for one thing a nice, short curly black wig is necessary (unless you’re lucky enough to have curly black hair in the first place). Next, you’ll need bright blue eye shadow and red lipstick – tastefully done of course  ! Ignore these small details and your costume will fail.

What else?  Well, specifically you’ll need black panties and a black vest or maybe even a lace up bustier. Oh yes, don’t forget the big oversized white pearl necklace. You’ll complete the look with a pair of black fishnet stockings, long black, but fingerless, gloves and a pair of heavy big black shoes.

Last but not least, any “real” Frank n Furter costume will need finishing up with makeup – including heavy black eyeliner, a pale powder for the face and a nicely done blush.

So, get your “Frank on” and have yourself a very scary Halloween.
